What is the typical operating Surface Temperature of an electric motor?

A typical Class F insulated motor (most common) motor can have an external Surface Temperature of 175 degrees F and higher. Many motors are going to be much warmer depending on the design and ambient temperature. Bottom line is that it is unsafe to lay your hand on a motor to see if it is too hot; get a thermometer instead!
